Due To Water Outages, Officials Warn Sevierville Residents To Boil Water Before Drinking or Using For Food

Due to water outages, officials announced Wednesday afternoon that they have reason to suspect water distributed to customers of the East Sevier County Utility District may be contaminated.

Until further notice, water customers with the ESCUD are advised to boil water before using it for drinking or food preparation.

Customers were warned to take the following steps:
1. Before boiling, water should be strained through a clean cloth to remove any sediment or floating material.
2. Water should be heated to a vigorous boil, and the rolling boil should be maintained for one minute to ensure disinfection.
3. Water samples are being collected and tested. Customers can use water normally once results are confirmed that water is safe to use. These results should arrive after about 24 to 48 hours.
4. Customers can pick up one case of spring water per household per day at the ESCUD office located at 1529 Alpine Drive.
