Hiker Dies From Cardiac Distress In Great Smoky Mountains National Park Near Alum Cave Trail Over Weekend

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Rangers responded to a call about a man in cardiac distress on Alum Cave Trail Saturday morning.

Investigators said Phillip Basset Davenport, 47, was hiking down the trail from Mt. Le Conte with friends after his stay at LeConte Lodge on Friday.

Rangers said Davenport passed out three miles from the trail-head and that bystanders administered CPR.

Park medics responded, but Davenport passed away around 11:14 Saturday morning.
